Conventional Wisdom Suggests That Stress Accelerates Aging -- But Is It Really True?

�Evolutionary studies of ripening typically apply small, transitory animals (insects, worms, mice) under benign conditions - constant temperature and humidity, no parasites, superabundant intellectual nourishment - in the laboratory. Oddly enough, very little is known about ageing in such animals in their abrasive, stressful natural environments. Could it be that these laboratory "guinea pigs" actually age often more slowly in captive luxury than do their wild cousins?

Nori Kawasaki, Rob Brooks, and Russell Bonduriansky of the University of New South Wales, and Chad Brassil of the University of Nebraska, place out to find out, using the giant Australian stilt-legged fly Telostylinus angusticollis, a beautiful, sexually dimorphous animal that breeds on rotten mrs. Henry Wood. To identify individual flies in the wild, they wrote codes (combinations of Arabic numerals and Latin and Japanese letters) on the flies' backs victimization enamel paint, and recorded the comings and goings of marked individuals on Acacia trunks while at the same time monitoring their captive cousins in the lab.

Often considered one of grindcore's innovation fathers, Carcass were among the turn one bands of the utmost alloy musical style to stress a different lyrical attack -- one that reflected a fascination with surgical gadgets and peculiar words straight out of a mEd student's school text. Pavarotti widow, daughters agree on inheritance

MILAN, Italy —

A lawyer for Luciano Pavarotti's widow says his family has come to a friendly agreement on how to divide up his estate.

Pavarotti had drafted two wills near the end of his yearlong battle with cancer. One divided his assets by Italian law, giving half to his second wife, Nicoletta Mantovani, and half to his four daughters. The second left the tenor's U.S. holdings to Mantovani.

Pavarotti died last September. He had three adult daughters from his 35-year marriage to first wife Adua Veroni. He married Mantovani in 2003, and the couple had a young daughter.

Mantovani's lawyer Giorgio Bernini declined Monday to provide details about her agreement with Pavarotti's three eldest daughters. He says a judge is expected to confirm the deal by the end of July.

James Dean Gallery moves back to original home in Fairmount, Indiana

FAIRMOUNT, Ind. - The James Dean Gallery is back where the 1950s Hollywood icon grew up.

Owner David Loehr has moved the gallery back to its original spot in Fairmount, Indiana, about 80 kilometres northeast of Indianapolis. He had moved everything out in 2002, after a small electrical fire in the original house. The risk of another fire prompted Loehr to think about getting some of his rare Dean collectibles out of the structure.

The gallery moved to a custom-built, state-of-the-art museum at Gas City's Interstate 69 interchange for two years.

But Loehr says that place was too big and became "unsustainable."

"It got so big, so grand, that it didn't work," Loehr said.

He said he sold some of his memorabilia just to get out of the hole he was in because of the building. Needing a place to house his wares and regroup, Loehr moved the display to the Kruse Automobile Museum in Auburn.

But he decided to move back to the building where he started the gallery in 1988. It features a collection of Dean portraits and rare memorabilia, including hometown artifacts, collectibles, magazines and more.

Dean hit it big with starring roles in "East of Eden," "Rebel" and "Giant," which had just wrapped filming when a station wagon collided with Dean's new silver Porsche Spyder near rural Cholame, Calif., on Sept. 30, 1955. He died instantly.

Loehr is planning new brochures and hopes to market the gallery, which has no admission charge, to Midwestern families looking for a short, affordable day trip.

"James Dean will never die culturally," Loehr said. "There will always be fans."

Garden Tribute For Late Beatle Harrison

Late BEATLE GEORGE HARRISON's widow OLIVIA has created a floral tribute for the legendary musician - by designing a garden in his honour for an English flower show.

The garden will feature as part of England's Chelsea Flower Show, and is entitled Life To Life after a line in the Beatle's hit It's All Too Much.

The tribute will depict Harrison's humble beginnings growing up in Liverpool, England to his post-Beatle life of luxury - all through the medium of plants and flowers.

The garden - which is sponsored by Harrison's own Material World Charitable Foundation - is a fitting tribute for the musician who often frequented the Chelsea Flower Show before he died from lung cancer in 2001.

Olivia tells Britain's Radio Times magazine, "Each year we used to go to Chelsea and George would take copious notes and come home with a list of plants he wanted to buy.

"My hope is that this project will be a tribute to the horticultural side of his personality that relatively few people knew about."

Seattle Shakes' "All's Well That Ends Well" has a few bright moments

Even playwrights of genius have their off days. And on one such a day, William Shakespeare completed his stage comedy "All's Well That Ends Well," which Seattle Shakespeare Company is now bravely undertaking at Center House Theatre.

Wedged between the far superior "Twelfth Night" and "Measure for Measure" on the Shakespeare timeline, "All's Well That Ends Well" is verbose, heavily contrived and introduces us to a couple of fairly unsympathetic romancers.

Helena (portrayed by Sarah Harlett) is a "poor physician's daughter" intent on marrying the higher-born Bertram (Connor Toms) — despite the class gap, and Bertram's total resistance.

One of the more conniving yet emotionally tone-deaf leading ladies in the Bard's canon, Helena sweetly but shamelessly ropes in her mark with various subterfuges over the course of the play. Bertram, meanwhile, abandons his bride on their wedding night to soldier and seduce in sunny Italy.

"A man noble without generosity, and young without truth," is how 18th-century Shakespeare critic Samuel Johnson described Bertrand. But Helena is no prize either.

Director Stephanie Shine has her work cut out for her, given the queasy morality on display here. And then there's the plot (inspired by a story from Giovanni Boccaccio's compendium of bawdy tales, "The Decameron"), which plods along, then gets hyperactive.

As the would-be lovers, the fresh-faced Toms and game Harlett (a top-notch comic actor, strapped into a drab ingénue role here) connive and lie — albeit with incongruous sincerity.

Two pleasant musical interludes frame the play's early scenes in France, and its latter segments in Tuscany.

And Seattle Shakes regular Paul Morgan Stetler scampers about adorned with bright silk scarves (as the text suggests), and scares up a few laughs as the foppish fool and cowardly braggart Parolles.

Not all the actors in the ensemble deliver the dialogue's couplets crisply, but Marianne Owen's wise, maternal countess is a model of lucidity — as are Stetler, Toms and Harlett.

And Stetler is adept at the verbal jousting required of Parolles ("words," in French) — as when he expounds on virginity, as "peevish, proud, idle, made of self-love, which is the most inhibited sin."

But "All's Well That Ends Well" needs a bolder, more illuminating approach than the straightforward style Seattle Shakes adopts.

Sludgy with repetition, light on character development, the play relies on sudden turnabouts of fate and affection to further its ends. And it leans on creaky devices like the "bed trick" — a fanciful act of sexual entrapment in Boccaccio's repertoire and Shakespeare's. (The latter also used it in "Measure for Measure.")

"All's Well" does get an attractive physical setting from designer Kurt D. Walls, with green faux marble floors and sienna-toned architecture. Tiana Covolos is responsible for the pleasing, Regency Era-style costumes.
